Alocasia macrorrhiza is one of the largest aroids grown as a houseplant, native to the rainforest understory of Southeast Asia, and it is its fast, vigorous growth in shifting canopy light that has made the species valued in horticulture. The 'Stingray' cultivar takes its name from the leaf's elongated, whip-like drip tip, which trails off the blade in a way that genuinely resembles the tail of the fish it is named for, and the effect becomes more pronounced as the plant matures and the tip lengthens.

This specimen, grown from a corm taken from a single mother plant in Rare Plant Fairy's collection, carries heavy albo variegation, with broad cream and white sectors breaking across the green in an irregular, marbled pattern rather than a clean split. No two leaves come out quite the same, which is part of the draw for collectors following a particular expression on this cultivar. Growing from a corm taken from a single mother plant is a propagation method that preserves the variegation pattern more consistently than seed-grown stock.

The plant is grown by Rare Plant Fairy in a chunky aroid mix of bark and perlite, with watering once the top one to two inches of substrate have dried out, which suits the vigorous root growth this species is known for. Its architectural leaves and bold cream-and-green marbling can work as a focal point on a shelf, plant stand, or desk where the drip-tip silhouette is easy to see.
